oscilloscope? wtf

so i read on here that someone bought an oscilloscope. well i look online for them and i see listing of these things anywhere from 1000 to $75,000. do i really need to buy a 1k dollar thing just to set my gains lol? i know i can use a dmm and have, but i would like to try out this oscilloscope thing. so...do they really cost that much or is there some cheap versions out there? stupid thread, i know

you don't need one, but it's the best tool to use because you can actually see when the sine wave is clipped.

Run it in your car and hook up your pc outside. That way you can use the oscilisscope with the pc sound card. I have used about a $10,000 osciliscope, that a friend has for his electronic stuf he does for a hobby, to tune a fm broadcasting unit that would go about 2 miles. It was a fun thing to play around with.

Don't worry george...orboard sound isn't always bad. My motherboard came with 6.1 sound. I, of course upgraded, but on-board is not always a bad thing.
