Hello, all:
I don't go on this forum much these days. But I just picked up a stunningly beautiful Orion HCCA 425 "poptop" amp. I am adding it to my collection of HCCA amps (I have two HCCA 250s and one HCCA 2100). Has anyone here had experience with this amplifier running just plain old satellites at 4 ohms, no channels bridged? I will not be using it to power subs.
Some of my research revealed opinions on the web that "HCCA amplifiers are not the amp to use for continuous listening". It appears this is mainly a heat related opinion. However, that would seem to apply only if the amp is set up to run at 1/2 to 2 ohms, not at 4 ohms. If anyone has run this straight 4 channels at 4 ohms, maybe you can tell me how it performs and whether that "25 watts per channel" rating is even close to what it really puts out. I suspect that when the alternator is running it is likely about triple that output (at the same low 0.03% distortion).
Thanks,
Mike
