Optima YT's burn up??? :-?

OK so my battery is leaking (//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif ) and I went to a local battery store to find out a price for a D34 YT..$178..ok first thats bs I tihnk and thats WITHOUT tax..

well there were two guys running the store when I was just there 20mins ago..I sai dyou carry YT? and they said yea..one guy just kept shaking his head..

one of the guy: you dont want a YT

me: why

guy: they burn up when you are driving around alot while they are being charged

me: never heard of that before..?

guy: if your going to show and use it with your car off then its a good choice

me: I knew that already

guy: dont waste your money on a YT..we have alot of people bring theirs back b/c it "burnt" up since they drove around alot while it was charging..

ok wtf? anyone have this kind of problem with YT's? I need a new battery asap so any/all comments are appreciated

the yt is a kinda hybrid starter/deep cycle battery... with all batteries it is possible to physically overcharge it... on newer cars that isnt the case anymore for the most part tho. but burning up from normal driving, even long road trips.. nah... not in newer cars that have overcharge protection built in

i own atleast one of every battery optima makes....never had one problem.

i know some of mine will take a 17v charge and not "blow up"

so I shouldnt have any problems with it? I only drive to school and work..thats my farthest trip during the day..weekends i just drive to movies or mall or someones house..my longest drive yet was an hour to another city..

I've got an Optima deep cycle...never a problem.

If a battery "burnt" up, there's a problem with the regulator letting too much voltage to the battery, resulting in thermal runaway.

i highly doubt the battery would burn up before the cars electrical...the optimas can take a pretty high charge before the top eventually melts off, lol
