Openikng a checking account

What?
uhh credit is credit and debit is debit.. squeek wtf dude?
Exactly what I said. When you are at a merchant location (a store, such as Walmart) and you go to pay with a "card", they ask you "Is that debit or credit?" If you say "credit", then it runs through like a credit card where you have to sign the sales slip. If you say "debit", then you have to enter your PIN into the machine.

You obviously haven't a clue, so stop while your ahead. Not only have I been doing it like this for years with my own debit card, I also work in the industry.

:+1:

Also... most PIN related transactions will cost YOU an access fee. $0.50 / per or similar.
Outside of "home" atm's that is.
? ? ?

You've got one heckuva shafty financial institution. I'm a bit on the paranoid side so it's a rare occurrence that I do any transactions as 'debit' due to not wishing to publicize my PIN # to whoever may be in line near me.

Additionally, when running bank card purchases as credit, should a problem arise with the purchase later I have the protection of being able to use MasterCard's fraud protection policies on top of the ones already in place from my bank.

Having said that...my bank (and no others that I know of in my area) does not charge any sort of fee for making a purchase as a debit-type transaction. There will be a fee assessed for withdrawing cash out of an ATM not owned by my bank....but I can goto Wal-Mart (or wherever) and make a debit purchase and the only $$$ I'm out is the total of whatever I've bought. Never heard of being charged a fee for making a debit transaction. That bites!

Aright, Wachovia provides a Visa check card. When I say credit, would I get a bill at the end of the month? Will in incur any extra charges besides the price of the item or service I'm buying? I like the idea of not having to ender a PIN number and having extra fraud protection, but I don't want to have to deal with other fees and interest and I would prefer for the money to just be billed straight from my checking account. I'm not gonna be buying anything unless I actually have to hard cash.

And no, I don't get charged a service fee for a debit transaction unless it's at an ATM that my bank doesn't own, like has been said.

Just to be sure you understood; Don't ask the bank for credit. He was talking about when using the debit card at a store and the clerk asks "debit or credit", tell them credit.
And no, no fees or interest. You'll just have the sign the sales slip rather than enter your pin number in the swipe machine. Saves you from people who are standing around you seeing your PIN number.
Yes, I knew not to ask the bank for credit.

open an account with this bank http://www.ing.com/index.jspi just opened up an account for my newborn 2weeks ago and i just put 20bucks in there just to get it open and already it grew to $23.30...

so being that your 17 i would do it........i'm 25 and i have 3 different bank accounts....u need to have money comming from different areas..but at the same time keep track of it
Also, according to this page, ING direct savings accounts compound monthly, not daily.
