I prefer Something less expensive.

sundown SDs, skar vd, or SSA Dcons would be a lot less expensive then a JL shallow. There's the type R shallow mounts but those are more expensive. there's also kicker compRTs, but ... kicker... lol.

You should consider the enclosure suggested by trumpet. Sealed isn't the loudest, but given space constraints, you have to take what you can get. Having said that, you're looking for a subwoofer with high Qts that will do well in a fairly small sealed enclosure. I also want to make sure your expectations aren't set too high. You said you want the loudest...2 10"s in a sealed box is not going to be very loud. However, it should be pretty musical and he can expect a good stage when paired with good components and amps.

How small? Most good class D mono amps are pretty efficient.

American Bass VFL44801D is very small and efficient. Calls for a 120 amp fuse and does around 2200 rms
