I've eBayed for almost 9 years, mostly as a buyer. Add in a bunch of stuff on Yahoo auctions years ago when they were free, various forums I'm on where buy/sell/trade happens and other online deals for around 1000 deals experience in that time. Bad experiences always tick me off but they are around 1% of the time. I can deal with that in the bigger scheme of things.
My current peeve is with hifisoundconnection. They had listed some Pioneer REV 6x9's with a quantity of 95. I buy and then it turns out they have NONE. They made two offers, one to bait and switch me and the other to keep my money for an unspecified amount of time while waiting for the speakers to show up. I asked for a refund via email. The phone number they give never gets answered by a human and they never reply to voicemails. They never gave a refund.
Too late I did my due diligence on their rating. Plenty of complaints showed up from customers who bought and later found out the item was not in stock despite HiFi listing them in copious amounts. They engaged in retaliatory feedback in order to get customers to "mutually withdraw" negs, with the one coming HiFi's way being totally justified.
I turned them into SquareTrade for their shady business practices, registered a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General's office since that is where HiFi is and I have just filled out a disputed payment form with my credit card company. Will shaking enough trees get something going? I don't know but I intend to find out!
As far as I was concerned, they broke the auction deal when they listed 95 for sale and had none when I bought. All they had to do was refund my money and it's case closed. They want to play games and now I'm going to nail them out. I got my speakers shipped from MillionBuy on
eBay uber-quick and they're all ready to go for Friday's install.
Yeah, it's a horror story but they're rare events. My 100% rating shows I'm a good guy eBayer and for the most part things do go as they are supposed to, with ontime shipping, good packaging and ontime payments. Just like crossing the street, one buys with some caution and it was me not being as careful as I should have been to check out the negs on the seller beforehand that set in motion my dealing with this ripper/scammer overseller.
Foolish me...LOL! I'm a Big Boy and I'll deal with it though.
