One amp or two?

I have my front stage picked out and now that I am working on my sub stage, I have a fairly simple question. Since I will be amping the front speakers, would it be better to run one amp for the front stage and a separate amp for the subs, or would a large 4-channel amp be a better route to take. What are the pros and cons of each and would I need to update my electrical system in either case? The front speakers will be Phoenix Gold 6.5, but am not sure on the subs quite yet, probably looking at running 2 @ 300-500rms each.

Thank you for your help.

I like the ease of running one amp for the entire system, but if you are going to be running that much power to the subs it would probably be easier for you to go ahead and get a separate class d amp to power the subs. Itll probably be cheaper.

You can't really expect to get 500RMS out of the last 2 channels of a 4 channel amp. I would do 2 amps. A mono and a 2 channel or a mono and a 4 channel.
Where are you in Illinois?
Thanks for the info so far. That was quicker than i expected. I live in the Mt. Vernon area.

I will be going with 2 amps since it looks like the most efficient way to go. For the PGs, I've thought about going with this: MB Quart Discus 500 Watt A/B Class 4-Channel $129.95 (LINK). Is this a good quality amp?

Also, should i pick out the amp for my subs first, or pick the subs and then the amp? How much power can my stock electrical system handle before I would have to upgrade? I would rather not have to upgrade the alt if possible.

subs first then amp....

If your in a tight budget then research both prior to buying

- what vehicle are you installing this system in?

Thanks for the advise.

it's going into a 99 mustang coupe.

Just ordered a Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X792, set of PG RSD65cs if it helps with the system wattage. I haven't decided what amp for the PGs yet.
