on the verge, the premier 860MP

If you are using the passive crossovers for your components, then you can not run time alignment for the tweeters and mids independently, but rather you are running T/A for them both at once. If you are still planning on using passive crossovers for your fronts and rears, then you would be fine with an 860. Running active is when you ditch the passive crossovers and amp each of the components individually.
well, i might be wrong but... if i was running my components up front actively OR passivly i wouldnt be able to use time alignment OR tune them seperatley because they are all put into one category according to the head unit:"FRONT". therefore with the 860 or with x889, the only way to run have complete adjustability over all drivers would be with running:

ONLY components up front and a sub

ONLY a set of speakers up front, rear fill and a sub

not to be a difficult, but i would think that most people who just go to shops to get equipment installed by the car stereo shop would get components up front, speakers in the rear door and subs in the trunk. so i wonder what head units they would use for those systems and how they would tweak their system if they didn't have the ability to tune each driver indivdually (not including subs.) seems like someone would have come up with the idea to make a souce unit capable of tuning comps for the front stage, rear fill and a sub that doesn't cost 1400 dollars new. maybe i'm asking too much....eh probably.

edit: not to take away from each of the units, because they are BOTH great decks for a great price. does anyone know if the eclipse 8455 or alpine 9855 can do this?

You are wrong.....

You can use the T/A on the pioneer while having components, you just need to set it to front. It will still have a rear output with all frequencies on it, unless you choose to use the HPF on it.

I know that Eclipse units have T/A and pro mode on them, im just not shure which

right, i will be able to use it, but not to its full potential, right? T/A is essentially adjusting the timing on a speakers sound by its proximity to your ear. well, my tweets and mids are both coming from different distances and placements, but i am forced to adjust them in the same way, though they are pretty different because they are lumped together in the "front" setting.

I am also looking at the 860, I have front 3.5s, rear 5.25s and subs (yeah I know, no midbass). So I can time align the fronts, mids, and subs even though they are all controlled by amps? That would be pretty cool. What about the auto-eq? Does that work well?

Yes.The auto eq sucks, lame feature if you ask me.

Its a great idea and if it actually worked like it was supposed to it would be the shiznit. Unfortunately it doesn't do the job its supposed to. Its not a bad starting point for someone who is just starting out though.

Yeah the auto EQ does ****. Just do it all personally, rather then letting the 860 decide for you, it works better that way. You can align your front rear and sub all with that deck though, it should work fine for your app.
