On Fire?

I just installed my Kinetik 1400 in the vic, and I smell something burning. And a slight slight whine every few seconds aswell. The whine is not constant, and is barely audible only when the hood is popped. I got my battery sooner than I thought because my old one went out. Will I be doing the same thing now with my alt? Is the 1500a battery too much for my alt to charge? What is going on?

DMM Readings

12.86v Dead

14.34v Running.

in somewhat regards to this post.....is there a certain amount an alt can charge? Say you have a stock 130 amp, and 3 batteries (2 group 31 deep cycles, and one stock) is it straining your alt more to charge those deep cycles, as long as the car is on, it wouldnt right???

No idea what is going on, but make sure ur using a sufficiant gauge wire. Check ur ground, that might be the cause of the whine
Well, there currently is no music in the car outside the deck, and 4 speakers running on it. So I don't think this would be the cause. However when I get my DMM on it, and respond to mp3pimps responce. If that turns out that my alt is charging fine, i'll go ahead and do the big 3 before I buy my alt. If not, then when I get my alt, i'll do the big 3 when i get it.

put a DMM on the batt and see if it goes uip when you turn on the car
When i get to work around 1:15, i'll check it.

Your alternator is the main power source when the car is running. The extra batteries wont cause and stress by themselves if the amount of pull on the alternator doesnt exceed the amout the alt can produce.

Example...

If you have a 90 amp alt and 2 batts, if you current draw is only 10-30a you more then likley wont be stressing the alternator. In all reality, your system will not be running off the batterys, it will be running off the voltage the alt produces.

If you have a 90 amp alt and 2 batts and your current draw is MORE then the alt can produce, your system will rely on the batteries to get its current. This will cause more stress on the alt to try and produce the needed charge, and also the batteries will be in a constant drain state.

I dont know about your issue. Just make sure you check all your connections throughout the car. Make sure nothing is touching hot things and that all your connections are clean and tight.

I disregarded it as the "new" burning off the battery for now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif Like I said, I'll get the DMM on it at work, but off now, I guess it's ok. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

As tested by the DMM, readings on the batt are...

12.86v Dead

14.34v Running.

So the battery is good, and the alt is doing its job, so what is this burning sensation creaping into my nostrels?
