Doesnt this thing do a clean 1200rms...??
I'd read its just a 2250SX "beast" with a face lift. 2 ohm stable, 4 ohm bridged to 1000 watts specs.
In a ....Car Stereo Review magazine test...need to dig it up again.. Test was a few of the biggest baddest most expensive amps of the time. PPI 2350, RF Power 1000, HiFonics Colossus, pair of Linear Powers, and an Orion 2250SX. The idea was that not many folks would get these monsters but that these were the flagships of each company. If their baddest, most expensive amp didn't do rated power, or rated distortion, you could expect the same from the rest of their line.
The Orion didn't do 1000 watts, something like 850 stuck in my head, going on 20 year old memory here & a couple drinks in that time. With good cooling though you could cruize full power and not shut down. Most importantly like a few other Orion amps, dead ****, ball milled anodized aluminum.
Thanks allot for the article bigdwiz! I hadn't seen that. Dunno what final production was but I saw a load of them, 10 or 12 in the back of a walled car, SPL burp. Friends and I learned a bunch from him that afternoon but he never let on that loading to .000025 ohms or whatever was fictional.
I love that old Orion, stretch & bend the rules way. Hope to put this 97.3 with a couple 225HCCAs in my daily driver.
101 watts of old school power!
