I have a 6 year old Kenwood running my ID OEM mids and a 10 year old Autotek running my VC100 tweeters....and surprisingly enough, it sounds better than my eD, Eclipse, PDX, 300/2....just hooked the amps up today...both amps only cost me $30 + box labor..

Only difference is I now have Wal-Mart RCA's instead of Knu....same processing and everything, just different RCA's....

Old School > Current ish?

From my take on it... the old boards were all built in America... assuming, hand built. Most amps now a days are built in an asian country, where quantity is > than quality. But, I would love to get my hand on some old school amps.

Sorry, but no. If you were to put the amps on actual measurement equipment the new amps would have less noise, be more powerful and be more efficient.
I don't care what some piece of equipment tells me, I'm just going by what my ears are telling me...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

What I am saying is that YOU may prefer the sound, but generally they are dirtier and some will prefer the sound of newer amps, but on an actually measurable and scientific level, the new amps are better.

It really comes down to your ears and what you like. I love and miss the old school stuff from the mid to late 90s, SQ was wonderful, and those amps were build like tanks. One of the reasons many of them are still around today, working like they were brand new.

Blind A/B comparisons are the only way subjective listening comparisons make sense. Oddly enough, many of the proponents of the most expensive equipment come up with various excuses why they won't subject their gear to these tests. I personally doubt very many people could distinguish between different amps of reasonable quality in a test like this. I'd love to be proven wrong...
