Hello all.  I bought a cheapo Boss unit off Amazon for an old 97 Ford Ranger.  Basically it needed to have a clock, and radio in order to meet my standards ?.  I clipped the wires from the old factory stereo and since I did not have a wiring harness, I used a wiring diagram I found online here to wire everything up.  I have unit 616UAB and I can't for the life of me get the damn thing to turn on.  I have used a volt meter and confirmed I have constant power coming into (Yellow Power B+), Accessory power coming into (Red ACC +), and ground to Black, no power antenna so that wire is loose.  One thing I do find odd is that there appear to be 2 ground wires, one is just solid black, which does not appear on the wiring diagram, and the other is Black/Green which is on the wiring diagram as "Radio Ground".  I tried grounding to the chassis of the stereo as well with one of the grounds, and did not seem to make a difference.

Let's get these out of the way:

  1. Yes I know BOSS is a POS, needed a cheap radio
  2. No I did not use a harness, I used butt connectors and verified connectivity
  3. Yes I replaced the fuse, interestingly enough it was burnt out, still won't power up.

Can anyone give some guidance as to what I can do to troubleshoot?  I have to assume Boss won't give any help just based on what I read online.  Thanks for any help you can provide!
