Blame. haha, I heard that the people whom own the only proven oil absorbant material, like something that eats only oil, is owned by some high profile americans...

The biggest oil spill happened in 1911 in California called Lakeview Gusher - but no one cares because it's so long ago.

The second biggest oil spill is the Gulf War - those ****ers set fire and blown up oil wells left and right trying to stop the US military from reaching the shoreline.

What's going on in the Gulf of Mexico can become the 4th largest oil spill in history. The oil spilled during WWI and WWII were not accounted for I don't think but it is pretty small when compared to the Gulf War.
