Has anyone on these forums worked on a oil rig or know someone that has? my uncle and cousins are about to go on one.. they said the pay is 10 grand for 4 weeks and then 3 weeks off. working 30 days straight. im use to hard labor because of my work field... the pay would be def worth it... i do realize your away from home alot.. and i think it would be worth the sacrifice... they said pay is between 15-25 dollars an hour for roughnecks... anyone have any info?

With oil at 43 dollars a barrel the oil industry here is suffering big time, not alot of work to be had.

My brother in law did it for awhile.

You can make a lot of money, but they will work you like a slave.

You will be cold and drenched in muddy oily water all day.

But it's a job.

i have many many friends workin the rigs here in montana and they are all gettin laid off.....glad i never worked on em or i'd be lookin for a new job

but i'd say 20+ for sure. you can do construction for 15+

Luckilyfor me I got a call two days ago sayin I was getting a 30% pay raise.

I knew someone that worked on one in the Gulf, but he was a diver, not working on the platform...said the pay was great, but the work environment sucked.
