Ohms

ok ohms are a measure of resistance. so the higher the resistance the lower power you get.

(IE 200w to a 4 ohms speaker. will be 100W to a 8 ohms. or 400 to a 2 ohms and 800 to a 1ohm.)

so with that said the reason everyone doesnt wire their amps to 1 ohm is because most amps are stable at 1 ohm. and also you get more distortion with only 1 ohm resistance than you would with a 4 ohm speaker.

i may not be clear but at least i try //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It is more difficult and expensive to make an amp be stable at 1ohm than 2 or 4. Some companies double in wattage...500x1 @ 2ohms and 1000watts @ 1ohms, some companies like JL will stay 1000/1 at 1 ohm, 2 ohms, or 4ohms. JL felt wiring to 1 ohm their speakers did not sound as good as 4 ohms. So they made it same wattage no matter what just so you can have more wiring options. I think that makes sense...I am confusing myself.

Think of it this way...Current is to water as ohms is to the diameter of the tubing. Then the bigger hose (less ohms) will flow more water (current).

If that makes any sense? Trying is the first step to failure...
