please, can anybody verify to me about the basics of ohms. what ohm subs should go with what ohm amps. please help sum this up for me. also, i built a box for one of my friends, he has 2 kicker comps that r 8ohms. he's lookin at a 1250power acoustik 2ch amp, which is the exact setup i have (except i think my subs r 2 or 4 ohms) so what ohm amp should he get.

Ohm is a value for resistance in a circuit. The less ohms, the more power can flow. However, the amp has to be stable at a lower ohm value or else it will shut down from heat protection, or just fry. Practically all car audio amps are rated at 4 ohm value. Most at 2ohms. And some can go even lower than that. My amp can do 1500watts into 1ohm. The ratings on the amp will tell you to what ohm load its stable to. Always wire your subs to the lowest ohm your amp is stable to, thats how you get the most power, while keeping your equipment safe.

....His subs are rated at 8ohms? Are they home theater subs? Heh. Anyways, to answer your question, you would run them in parallel. That will bring the 8ohm load down to 4ohms.

There are a lot of car audio subs that are 8 ohms. My Rockford Fosgate P1's are 8ohms SVC.

Not too many amps are gonna give you 8 ohm, so see this site to learn how to bring them down to 4 ohms;

I just did the opposite. I had a 2 ohm dvc sub and had to wire it in "series" to get it to 4 ohms because i have a 4ohm amp. You can figure out if the subs are DVC(dual voice coil) or SVC(single voice coil) by seeing how many sets of contacts are on the back of each sub. My DVC for example has 4 posts, or 2 sets of contacts on the back.
