Ohm wiring question

I want to get 200 watts into each sub.

A 2 channel amplifier puts out 100w x 2 at 4omhs and 200 watts x 2 at 2 ohms.

Is it possible to run 2 single voice coil 4 ohm subs somehow to get a 2 ohm load?

Or would I have to get a 1 channel amp that puts out 400w at 2 ohms and run the subs in parallel to get 200w to each sub?

if you used a 2-channel amp that was bridged, you could only be getting power at 4 ohms mono (you could technically go lower but not unless you spend $$$). The best bet would be to get a seperate mono amp rated 400W@2ohms and wire in parallel as you said.

One question Ice what company is your amp by. Cause I used to run my RF 500a2's @2ohm mono all day. And you can do it with some other amps you just have to make sure you have a big enough power wire, and watch your gains& bass boost.

icedbimmer.....its not a great idea to do that because i did that before for a little bit when i was new to caraudio and guess what...i blew my amp. it overheated right away.

hmm that sucks, iv done it and it worked just fine, dident overheat or anything. The only time I got a 500a2 to overheat was when I ran it at like 1ohm Yeah I guess its really not a good idea to suggest that!! But I still say RF amps can run 2ohm mono!!

I do not have any of those amps yet. I was going to go with the Rockford Forgate Punch 400S. But just to be safe I am going to go with a mono amp.

This is for my friends car actually. He has 2 12" MTX 4000's.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif So he doesn't need a serious amp.

Any other suggestions on a 400-500 Mono amp for those subs? Thanks.
