Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying polk audio mm6501s, but they are rated at 3 ohm @ 125 watts. The amp I currently have works 200watts x 4 @ 2 ohm or 125 x 4 @ 4 ohm. What would it push in watts for 3ohm. Please help me with this, so I can order these babies. I can't afford a new amp I just bought a new car lol. Also the equation would be of help to if someone could post it. Thanks in advance...

Just set your gain so the amp will put out 19.3 volts on a test tone at 3/4 volume on your stereo. Your amp can probably put out about 150-160 watts at 3 ohms, so it'll live.

Yah, i've read over powering is better than under powering, but just as me learning I was curious to know if theres an equation or some method to determine exactly how much.. As far as the amp goes it's okay for a cheapo, its the older crunch model b4 the one I see out now.. As far as my subs I did have shallow mounts pushed by sound stream 1400 watt rms, but I totaled my truck and was too sore to get anything about but the amps. I have 2 tw2000 premier subs I got when they first came out.. I heard they are better design still than the new ones. Are the polk mm6501 worth the money or could I find something cheaper that would fit my 4 ohm rms of the amp that would sound better for cheap. ex precision power?
