ohm question

kk i have a problem with my amp overheating, its a 1000 watt alpine v-power and its powering 2 10 inch alpine type r's..... i got the guys at the car audio place to install it and i think they may have messed up.... they have a feed going to one sub from the amp then a continuation from the one sub to the other sub, and both subs are 2 ohm..... im told they were wired in parallel i guess, and the reason the amp is overheating is that i need 2 4 ohm subs instead of 2 ohm subs... am i right? im not a wiring expert or anything? i just need some help with this deal thanks guys!

thats exactly whats happening its going into protect.... i was told with the 2 subs in parallel like that the ohms will reduce in half, so 2 ohm will reduce to 1 ohm and run hot cause there is not enough resistance, now if i have 2 4 ohm subs, that will reduce to 2 ohm then i should have enough resistance no?

yes. you are correct.

type r's are dual vc....so if you are running at 1ohm you must have 2 dual 4ohm already.

Make sure all the coils are wired up (not just one on each sub). You can wire each sub (both coils, assuming they're d4's) to a 2ohm or 8 ohm impedence, and from there, wire them to 1ohm total, or 4ohm total.

so your saying two 4 ohm subs instead of two 2 ohm subs right?
type r's come in a dual 2 and dual 4 option....if you have the dual 4, then it should be wired to 1ohm

if you have the dual 2, then each sub can be seriesed to 4 ohm and then paralleled to 2ohm

your subs have 2 voice coils each. both are 4 ohms. wired in parallel that makes 2 ohms per sub. 2 subs parallel at 2 ohms each = 1 ohm.

you need dual 2 ohm subs, in series to get 2 ohms at the amp.
