Ohm question...

say i have two woofer with the rms of 1000watt, 1 is powered at 1ohm by an amp rated at 1000watt@1ohm while another one is powered at 2ohm by an amp rated at 1000watt@2ohm... well there be any difference in sound or power?
Have more information on the woofers?

He's asking (I think) if there would be any theoretical difference just by running it at a different impedance.

In that case, no. Both sub would be seeing 1000 watts. Damping factor would be reduced at 1 ohm compared to 2, so potentially you might have some sort of difference there. But for the most part, they would sound the same.

two identical subs cannot be run at 1 and 2 ohms.

single DVC 1 ohm = 2 or .5

2 ohm = 4 or 1

4 ohm = 8 or 2

etc.

Ok, Hijack. If I get a DVC 2 ohm sub, and a 2 Ohm subwoofer amp, can I still run that 2 ohm DVC sub in a 2 ohm load off of the 2 ohm amplifier?

Would I need a 2 channel to do that correctly?

you're missing the point though, he's asking if there will be a sound difference between 2ohm and 1ohm.
Yup, at least thats what I took the question to mean. Obviously not the same sub can be run at 2 or 1, but many companies offer the same sub as dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm versions.

But he's looking for any acoustic difference in a 1 ohm load vs a 2 ohm load, assuming output power is the same. In that situation, there should be none.

If you have a single DVC 2ohm/coil subwoofer, you could not run it to the amplifier at 2ohms. Your only options are 1ohm and 4ohm.

You do not need a 2 channel amplifier. A mono amp that does the power you need into either 1ohm or 4ohm is fine.

~sigh~

Reading > you, too.

Not really. A Dual 2 Alpine Type R on 1000watts at 1 ohm will sound the same as a Dual 4 Alpine Type R on 1000watts at 2 ohms
