So I've got an 06 F150 supercrew cab I've recently taken over and I wanted to do a nice modst clean system. Been out of the hobby for YEARS. But still have some older equipment laying around that's been dying for a vehicle to go in. I have 2 type r 10's, 2 w7 10's a jl 300/4 1000/1 and a DD MC1. So I figured the box would be too big for the w7s to fit under the seat even with a 2.5 inch lift kit. So I decide I'll run the type r sealed. That box should be pretty small and be able to fit. WELL I venture to a car audio shop. One that's been for around for over a decade. I walk in and I look around and it's like wtf. Where's all the speakers in the soundboard? Bunch of stuff on the floor. Just very cluttered, dark and extremely humid(where's the ac dude? Lol). Older guy walks out and ask "can I help you". I say yes, I'm looking to have a box built for my truck. He ask "for what kind of sub"? I say older Alpine type r 10's. He replies, "oh you already have subs "? Umm yeah(strange question given I told him what subs I had before he asked for what sub). So he says is the vehicle here? Yup. So we take a walk outside. I open the back door and on the floor is one of the Alpines and my 300/4. VERY FIRST thing he says is, "that amp won't work" followed by "oh that's an old sub". Wtf dude. I should have replied you're an old man but here we are. But me being the nice guy I am I simply said, im not using this amp for the subs, I have a 1000 for that. He then says "oh OK. But that's an old sub". Well hell, thats an old amp so whats your point.. So we go back in the store and I already knew what was coming next. So I just waited for it. And right on time he delivered... He said and I quote" you can't use that sub in there because the box it needs will be huge". I said I know I have to raise the seat and I'm already planning on getting a lift kit that gives another 2.5 inches of clearance. He then replied, well idk if that's gonna be enough. But if you wanna waste your money you can. And it would be $500 to do a box and it's not even gonna sound good. He then proceeds to do what I knew was gonna happen before I walked in the store. SELL ME ON NEW SUBS. So I let him plead his case. We walked passed the Jl's the Alpines, the Orions, the MTX'S all for him to show me a sub I've NEVER heard of or seen in any car show I've ever been to. Some company called "Comando". The sub was a Comando crx10 I think.

So he's selling it. I mean really selling it to me. He's telling how loud it is. He's telling me how much power it holds. He's telling how it would work GREAT with a jl 1000/1 etc. He then proceeds to tell me how the company has NO warranty. I said none at all? Nope. I said well im not comfortable buying anything, especially audio equipment without a warranty. He replied and I bs you not, "the speakers are so good they don't need a warranty on them because they never have problems if we install them". That's literally what this man said to me smdh. He tells me how much better they are than my current subs and they're cheap(180ish). So I ask, how much to do a box with these subs? $800 and they'll be super loud. Now, this man has never asked me what my music preferences are. Do I want spl or sq or a combo of both. Nothing. Just your alpines are old and this sub is loud.

I know this post is LONG and if you've read it all, I appreciate it. I just gotta know, is this what car audio has come to? I know I haven't played in this game in forever but damn. What happened to the days of a shop not trying to just sell you on something simply because they stock it? Hell, he didn't even ask what my budget was lmao. What kind of salesperson is that???
Lastly, after ge finally got finished telling me how old my sub was, he did pay a compliment to the condition of the truck. He couldn't believe it's an 06. It's immaculate inside. Isn't that something. Paying a compliment for something that's OLD..

"the speakers are so good they don't need a warranty on them because they never have problems if we install them".

My stepdad is using one of my old 10" Rockford subs that I bought in 2000. It sounds great and is more than loud enough for what he wants. Nothing wrong with old stuff as long as it was quality to begin with.

The last time I was in one of the local stereo shops that I frequented in my youth, I actually asked if they were going out of business. No sound board, no amps on display, just sub boxes and stacks of cardboard boxes with various equipment piled in the floor.
All I was looking for was a pair of decent tweeters. When I asked if they had any silk dome tweeters, all I got was a puzzled look.

Ask about a 3" midrange...see if they don't say that's a Tweeter 🤣
Funny you say that. Before I left I was asking about what door speakers should I got with? 6x8(factory) or 6.5 components? He shows me a Comando 6.5 speaker. Not a pair but a single speaker in one box. So I ask about a tweeter and he then pulls out a 3 or 4 inch speakers and said this will make that truck scream. I just looked at him and said "oh OK cool"🤣

That shop just wanted to push what they had instead of working with your gear. Your stuff’s solid better to find a shop that listens to what you want.
