I had a hard time sleeping last night, so I was watching the news at 4am. They said that Ford just made a deal with Sony where there will be an available option on all Ford cars and trucks for a Sony "system".

I think as a whole we are losing ground to Sony Car Audio.

I like the fact that car companies are getting the idea that people want aftermarket stereos in their vehicles but why Sony. A while back I remember there was a Mazda called the MP3, and had a Kenwood Excelon MP3 player. I thought that was pretty cool.

Sony does make decent TV's and DVD players, they should stick to that.

If a car company finally relents to the aftermarket buying public to enough of a degree that they're looking to offer better audio systems as OEM gear who do you think they're going to look to? The highest end gear or the company that will give them the best deal for purchasing in bulk?

I would suggest the latter rather than the former.

Sure it would be nice to have Arc, CDT, Rainbow, and the like as options for audio when you go to purchase a new ride but it simply isn't cost efficient for the automaker to make available.

Scion, a division of Toyota (which is inarguably a profitable company with a few different luxury offerings notwithstanding) offered (or still offers...don't know which) an option for a "better than stock" audio system.

The gear was Bazooka. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Sad as I am considering they are a Louisiana-based outfit.......I'd probably rather have stock Toyota gear rather than Bazooka at the end of the day...

i actually have a the 'sony audiophile package' on my car (or did until i replaced it all).

it means that the stocks speakers have a Sony symbol on them, 6 disk indash, factory sub, AND THE VOLUME GO UP AS SPEED INCREASE!

Did it sound good? I mean for a factory system.

Mitsu uses Rockford now.

As someone else said, SONY isn't bottom of the pile. I'd still put build quality above all of the crappy brands. The HU's are nice for their price range, amps are alright. Subs and speakers are crappy, but to the unassuming public, SONY gear will sound really good. They just don't know any better.
