Warren G: Try the gain-setting tutorial. If you still are convinced there might be something wrong with the amplifier, try this...
If you have a curiosity in taking things apart, like I do, go for it. Just gotta remember how it goes back together, and above all, BE CAREFUL. just look and/or smell around the board and check stuff like i checked. Smells are generally funky-assed when it comes to electrical fires/close-to-fires. Did you see any smoke?
Try to put the gains at the same spot as they were before you got that problem.
