Kinda like when the Republicans kept Hillary on trial for like 4 years straight? They all play political games. Democrats think that showcasing the ill deeds of republicans matters but it really doesn't, they just want to shame them publicly. All it does is divides the people because one side sees some big bullies tearing someone apart and the other side sees someone getting there comeuppance. The power of the committee is basically meaningless so it's always meant to be theater. The American people I'm pretty sure have already figured out whether they like Barr or not, he's a pretty polarizing figure because of all of the norms he breaks.
The only committees I ever enjoyed were the ones where Warren ripped the JP Morgan Chase CEO a new ******* and the one where AOC questioned Zuckerborg about their role in misinformation campaigns. Neither mattered.
"This is purely political and shouldn't be allowed" By its very nature every single thing, literally everything, that congress does is political. That's why the impeachment trial was such a failure, facts don't matter in a political arena even if one side tries their best to make it non-political, who it's coming from still matters and it will appear political especially while the other side screams witch hunt and cries victim. Trying to remove politics from congress is like trying to remove bullshit from Jerry Fallwell's corpse, eventually you're just left with nothing.
