Official "ca.com" help me buy a used car thread! BMW vs ***** Am!!!?!?

Gentlemen,

A few months back if any of you remember my Camaro was totalled; needless to say im in the market now for another car. I am down to two cars; both which I am seeing wednesday. It's come down to either a 1998 Pontiac ***** Am WS6 M6 and a 1999 BMW 540i "M-Sports Package". Cost of both is around the same and the price difference isnt my deciding factor.

As you can see it's VERY clean; reason for it... it's mileage is a accurate 43k miles to date. Both owners were 40+ yr. old males who never used it as thier daily driver. I love f-bodys but the "luxury" factor of the BMW draws me away. This car is pristine with NO mods whatsoever. This is a huge PLUS in these cars as car a buyers standpoint. That means no 1 has ****ed with it that doesnt know what they are doing.

The milage is what scares me. Even if maintinance is kept up with is it bound to crap out soon ? is the 540 a ticking time bomb and is everything going to start to crap out? If i had a good chace the BMW is gonna last me another good 75k miles i would go for it, but i dont want to walk in something that is due to crap out soon.... help in my dilemma!!!

If the mileage was close between the two, I'd take the BMW in a heartbeat, but in this case, stay away from it- just has too many miles on it already.

Wow, I don't know enough about the cars to tell you, but I can see where you are stuck.

I would go with the BMW. Only because I dont really like the ***** am's that much and I don't think that it will crap out anytime soon.

Get the Ws6, way less miles.

get the F-body!! (the transam) it has a LS series engine (one of my favorite engines ever) and if it is stick it has the T-56 which is like *** in a gear box (especially with a short throw kit on it).

the Bimmer is nice for the LOOK AT ME crowd, just my two cents

plus you can do ALLOT more to the F-body, as far as mods go, you want a auto-x car, your good, you want a dragstrip car, your good, audio, that too lol

get the F-body put a nice system in it (the hatch glass reflects well) add a s-trim blower (and maybe some sub-frame connectors) and you have a killer machine.

check out thirdgen.org for all the F-body stuff, they have a audio section too.

WS6....i am a die hard BMW fan but 121k miles

that BMW is amazingly more sexy and everything but i just dont think you would want to take care of it as much as youd have to to keep it running for a long time
