Official CarAudio.com Big 3 Thread

ok...so i'm planning on doing a big three upgrade in my 5th gen..

i'm currently running 4awg main power into two 8awg's for my RF p1000-1bd and RF p400-4 and a diehard battery, pulling around 1300w rms.

I don't go around blasting my system (little over 50% every once in a while) and it does clip or overheat..I might eventually go 1/0 into two 4awgs for the amps, but at the moment there's no need..and i'll plan on getting a better battery as well.

big three question:

should i use 4 awg or 1/0 for my big three?? i can get 4awg real cheap from work but we don't carry 1/0

So when I do the big three with the factory battery/alternator/everything else in the engine, should I take out all the original wiring or should I just place the new wiring over the top of it in the terminals?

dupe? you mean fuse? i wouldn't worry about fusing the alt -> battery wire.
and you want 2 fuses between batteries. one at the front. one at the rear. for 1/0 i personally use 300a ANL front and back.

and yes, fuses go on positive wires.
I wish I had link, but I've seen pics of peoples shit MELT when they didn't have a fuse between the battery and the alt... its a precaution that is worthwhile...

Holy crap. Did the big 3 and WOW what a difference. This article was huge for me, thanks much. If anyone needs to know how to do this easily (not that it aint easy already) for a F150 Supercrew, let me know. Thx again.

Do not remove the factory wiring. These will be your failsafes if any wires become messed up.
