I agree with this. But I don't think Tebow is like a total and complete gamble. Do I think the Broncos needed him? No. But I don't think he deserves all the hate he gets.
It's not even a matter of whether the Broncos needed Tebow or not. It honestly isn't even about Tebow when you get right down to it. It's all about Josh McDaniels' stupidity or arrogance (I still can't figure out which it is, but I'm starting to lean heavily towards stupidity). Follow along, man.
- McDaniels replaces a Hall Of Fame level coach and immediately tries to shop his franchise QB in favor of Matt fu
cking Cassel. A man who hadn't been a starting QB with any regularity since he played high school ball.
- After a shit storm of contraversy, Jay Cutler is shipped to Chicago for a butt load of draft picks and a serviceable starting QB.
- McDaniels, now with Kyle Orton under his wing, brings in Phil Simm's gimpy kid that has sucked *** everywhere he's played.
- McDaniels trades a 2010 1st rounder to move into the 2009 2nd to make a total reach for a player that has yet to pan out. He then picks Orton as his staring QB, without so much as giving Simms a shot at the job, and the Broncos go on to stun the world for about 2 months once the regular season begins.
- After stumbling to a terrible finish in the 2009 season, McDaniels brings in Brady Quinn and ships out Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffer.
- McDaniels then trades down in the 2010 draft to acquire a ton of mid round picks.
- McDaniels passes on the top rated WR only to draft a "good character" guy instead.
- McDaniels then trades approximately 77 draft picks, 2 human souls and his first born daughter's virginity to acquire yet another project QB that's a "good character" guy.
At this point, the Broncos have Kyle Orton, Brandstater (sp), Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow on their roster. Only one of those men is a starting caliber QB right now, and that guy is Kyle. Why draft another project QB when you already have two of them on your roster? If the guy would've kept the offense he inherited, Denver may have blown through the regular season destroying every team in their wake. Hell, they did it for 8 weeks with Kyle, and Orton is no Jay Cutler. Like it or not, this is a fact.
McDaniels has shot himself in the foot at every turn. If I was a Denver Broncos fan, I'd be irrate. I wouldn't spend a dime on merchandise, go to any games or even look at the team's website until the moron running the ship is shown the door...
