Traded a receiver for this guy today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Turned out he was the same guy I got my Sony XM-802 from, another made-in-Japan ultra rare sq amp! The funny part is that he's just some late 50s guy who doesn't even know what he has lol

It's bnib, ALMOST minty. Just has a couple miniscule blemishes (I'd call it a 9.8/10). Never been powered up. I couldn't just sit and stare out it though without checking out the guts, so I broke her open and was happy I did! Quite unique looking, utilizing an aluminum plate surrounding the transformer and some other stuff just like my Japan-made Sony amps and Pioneer amp. Noticed some Nichichon caps and NEC parts inside.

Took quite a few pics before putting it back in the packaging. I would love to hear how it sounds, but I don't want to ruin the fact that it's never been powered on yet. Enjoy!

That aluminum plate is basically a shield/extra heatsink that protects the preamp stage from the EMF generated within the power supply section, I only see that in high-end home audio gears and high-quality PC power supplies.

High-end Japan audio gear is awesome because they're so carefully made and very few gets out of the island. It's like that Panasonic tube headunit, so rare it isn't even funny. I had a Technics Su-V8X integrated amplifier that is rated to do 110 watts x 2 into 8 ohms, I ran it down to 2 ohms and it actually made enough power to bottom-out a pair of Pioneer Premier TS-W2000SPLs and my Crossfire CFA1000D was not able to do that.

Yep! It's no wonder the THD is so ridiculously low on that Sony XM-802 I have, I LOVE how that amp sounds!

For sure! The parts are pretty nice. I mean, it is the precursor to what we know of Diamond nowadays, I think!

all i know is 2 things. 1. those output finals look very similar to the ones in my old xm-5540's , and 2. Diamond audio can lick my scrotum. Remember my RD sonance 15? Remember my mishap with a malfunctioning diamond d3-1100.1? Crappy amp decided it didnt want to make music , it wanted to randomly shoot 100+ volts of DC to my poor little 15. **** DIAMOND , Nuff said.
It does look very well built though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you are mistaking the diamond of today from old diamond. BIG mistake.

Thats said, I'm not sure this thing is related to diamond audio in ANY way. Mitsubishi's high end lines have been called "diamond" for a LONG time. That said, very cool amp!

This has nothing to do with Diamond Audio,

Mitsubishi Diamond Audio/Brand is refering to the 3 Diamond Logo they have used the Diamond name and still do for their large advertisment screens and home TV sets called Diamond Vision for a very long time.

As stated above Diamond Audio back in the early 2k was a child of Esoteric Audio and some employees of PPI.

Good to know! It makes you think otherwise, when it says Mitsubishi in small font and Diamond Audio in large font at the bottom haha //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
