Not using amp to full potential better for it?

Let's say I was going for one 12" woofer rated around 1000 WRMS. Would it run better/not over heat as easy if I had a amp rated around 2000 WRMS and tune the gain to around the 1000 WRMS rather than buy an amp rated at 1000 WRMS and use full gain? on the amp. eh. on the electrical and sub. Yes.. it will on the amp if its not sufficiently cooled and supplied with power and you try to pull 2000 out of it.

but whats nice is you are less likely to clip and will run the amp cooler and you have upgrade room

I'd say yes, the sub will prolly handle a little bit more than its rated at. You can always turn gains down to avoid damage to a sub but you can only turn them up so far before it happens. Clippin an all that, someone once said that to me

bro lets put it this way what you are saying is correct cause basically an amp will play better if it dont have to work as hard cause the harder it works the more heat it will produce witch it will also produce more distotion witch will kill your sub but it will play better that way.
