This isn't a noob here, but I def can't say I know everything about car audio.
I have a MechMan H/O alternator, with an optima under the hood and some g31 batteries in the rear.
I was on my way to work, everything fine, and right before i reached work Gorilla Zoe's "It's Christmas" came on, and INSTANTLY...the battery light came on, and my voltage went from hovering around 14 down to ~12ish. Took to advanced auto, they say the no load/load is 12 volts, and it's the alternator.
My question - would this make sense that an alternator would go instantly like that upon bass being played, or does it sound like possibly the bass 'loosed' up some sort of connection somewhere? I wouldnt obviously put it past the alternator, but the ****ed up part is it's 3 months out of warranty and JUST then, goes bad (and i have to pay for the repairs)
Test results from advanced auto:
Good Battery
Voltage: 12.47V
Measured: 960CCA
Rated: 750 CCA
Temp: 42F
Charging System Test
NO VOLTAGE
No Load: 12.07V/0.0A
Load: 12.07V/0.0A
My car starts, runs, with everything off - defrosters, vents, head unit, everything.
I find it very odd that all of a sudden, during one bass drop, the alternator dies/ceases to work. Obviously it can happen, i just want to make sure replacing that is the way to go. All visible connections are tight in the rear and under the hood....just want to rule out EVERYTHING before i take it in 8am for the stock alt to get put back in...i would assume then either internal issue with alt, or voltage regulator, etc
