not impressed with the L5

A friend of mine bought a new Kicker L5 12" the other day and a Kenwood Excelon amp, i think its around 800 watts or so, i didnt get a good peek at it. He has this is a jeep grand cherokee in a decent size ported box. When i heard these speakers in the store i was pretty impressed, but in the jeep they just sound like a baby fart thats not even as loud as my 6x9's (j/k). Anyways, just wondering what could be the problem. I know my friend is a dumbass and probably forgot to seal the edges of his box or something like that, but the local store hooked everything up for him (which I reccomended against because they are morons). All in all I dont see him enough to really care or help out, just wanted to throw my $0.02 in there.

There is a miriad of things that could be wrong. But from the sound of it something definately is. The kicker subs tend to really excel in ported enclosures. Got any idea of the tuning of the enclosure ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i just bought 2 12" L5's and a JBL BP600.1 (underpowered but meh). Never recieved them yet (got them off indo audio on e-bay). i have no idea what to do for a box for it!!? any ideas Ramos?!? or anyone!?

Brock are u shure u didn't see a L7 in the store and he has the L5?? This could be a big factor in it. If its not sealed too well, tell him for some $$ u will seal it for him.

im sure it was a L5 in the store...the L7 are pretty darn good I think, ive heard those in multiple occaisions. I didnt get a chance to get any information on the box to see what it was tuned to but my guess would be pretty low. Illtry to get ahold of this guy and ask him some questions cause he said he was gonna mess with the box some more and reconfigure some settings. well see what happenes.

help the kid out next time.......he's probably running them in series rather than parallel for one. Or two, it's crossed over improperly, aside from what was already mentioned about the box not being sealed properly. You'll feel better about it anyways....lol

so the L5s sound better ported? a JBL 600.1 amp won't be too mcuh for one 12'' L5 right?

hey fuel37, post a thread when u get ur subs and amp. i m gettin either 1 12'' L5, or 2 10'' subs and the JBL 600.1 soon too, tell me how they sound n what box u might use.

question guys, what's this frequency for the box? how do you tune the frequency for the box? i m leaning tor 1 12'' in a ported for more boom, but how do u tune the box? i m prob gonna get it from a store since i have no tools nor experience to make a box. at what frequency would the box best be tuned at? thanks guys

fuel137: swap that 600.1 for a 1200.1, you wont be sorry; perfect match
