Not hitting hard enough?

My setup just doesnt seem to have as much punch as i thought it should. I could really care less about volume I just want them to HIT really hard. I like to feel the bass in my chest. Maybe i'm just expecting to much from my gear, i know its not real high end but it still should get the job done right?

2000 Mercury Cougar (2DR hatchback coupe)

2 12" Kicker CompVRs aluminized dual 2-ohm

Kenwood KAC-9105D amp 900w rms @ 2 ohms

Sealed box ~1.35cu per chamber

EFX 4 gauge amp wiring kit

Kenwood KAC-448U hu

Subs are wired like:

Head unit settings:

Bass Boost off

Bass EQ set to 0

Low Pass filter set to "Through"

Subwoofer gain never set higher than 0db

Amp settings:

Phase 0*

Low pass filter ~100hz

Infrasonic filter 15hz

Bass boost 12db (@40hz)

Gain ~2/3 up

Gain was set using a DMM to ~42v output from a 0db 50hz test tone

U are running a sealed box. Switch to a proper ported box for those subs and you will get what you are looking for from them.

Would definitely ditch the sealed box. How loud were you expecting them to be? I wouldn't expect too much from two 12'" CVRs sealed.

That kenwood amp does NOT do 900w like it says btw, it does more like 650-700w at 2 and 1 ohm. Not to say that that is not enough.

Try a ported box too.

i have these same subs and does anyone no if i was to get an AP1500D amp would they be able to be ran parallel or do they have to be in series still?

Stop and take a second and read this back to yourself.

Also bud, you should tell us what radio you have, but also having a cougar should be easy to get loud, face the subs at the back of the hatch and take your little cargo tray cover thing off. You should also go for the ported boxes like was said.

If your running the subs in series your getting an 8ohm load to the amp which gets you about 250watts rms.

I started out having them face the back of the car, but recently i moved them to face the front with the back seats layed down. I'm going to turn them back to face the trunk because they were louder that way even with the seats up. its a hatch so even with the seats up its not like the trunk is sealed but i hardly ever use the back seats i figured i'll leave down might give em some more air to move.

I think i will go to a ported box, i've always used sealed except for one horrible experience with a cheap best buy box that literally fell apart from my subs. I was under the impression however that sealed boxes hit harder and gave deeper bass?

As for the amp yeah its cea-2006 certified for 500w@4-ohms but i know its not putting out all 900w at 2-ohms like it claims but i figured it should be enough to really drive these subs.

i have a grand am, but i have a alpine cda-105. i want an amp that can run these subs parallel because right now they are ran in series.
