not happy with JL 300/4?

Hey everybody. I just upgraded my system from an alpine MRP-T220 (2x50w) to a JL300/4. My speakers are boston SL60's. Now I'll admit it goes much louder than it did before, but I just dont think it sounds as good. The music seems a bit more disconnected if thats a word to describe it.

Any suggestions? Would i be happier with an alpine v12 amplifier?

Thanks for any input.

Kyle

Kyle, welcome to CA...sounds like something is adjusted wrong, you should have more power and it should sound alot better... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Possibly xovers set differently?

I dunno, from my observations I have found those regulated amps to lack 'emotion' as far as sound goes as opposed to unregulated/PWM amps. Its almost as if all the extra power should expose better dynamics, but it doesn't. Kinda lifeless.

Got that feeling even from a Qseries MbQuart amp we played with over the weekend. 250 x4 and we were rather unimpressed, expectations were higher.

Now in your case you went up in power, and lost SQ- unless its install related, trust your ears..

Thanks for the replies. I dont really see how it could be install related, I just took all the connections from my old amp and swapped it over to the new one. I set the crossover at about 80hz, where it was on my old amp.

Ive been listening more and the best way I can describe it is that the music just doesnt sound as real to me. Even with my only 50x2 amp I'd get in the car turn on the music and it was just so clear it amazed me every time.

Do you think something could be wrong with the amplifier? I just dont see why such a highly rated amp would sound worse than my $150 alpine. I dont know if I can still return the amp or not, but I'm thinking about getting the alpine 75wx4 if I will sound more like my old amp but more powerful?

Perhaps the JL amp is over rated. We already know they're extremely over priced so who knows.
