not enough power out of amp

The problem is, I need to turn the gains up all the way to get some decent amount of bass. it is a sony xm-1s running at 500watts @ 2ohms.

The weird thing is, when I hook this amp up to my buddies car it powers his sub amazingly, with the gain only about half way up! We both have 4 gauge power/ground.

Any ideas why this could be?

Shitty amp ?

You have lower pre-out voltage

Theres a lot of varibles.

your wire or battery **** or both his sub is more effecient or he has a better enclosure or both or his car is simply louder than yours

could it be b/c he has a stock head unit with a hi-low converter which has it's own gains?
