noob question about subwoofers

ok if i have a sub thats rated at 1000 watt rms and another thats rated at 600 which specs should i pay close attention to when considering spl. I mean i know the 1000 watt rms sub will take more power but other then that would 1000 watt rms sub be better then a 600 watt rms sub
