Noob putting together system

Excelons are pretty good decks, but I don't know about that particular unit. Personally, I'd save myself a little cash by picking up a nice Single-DIN deck with some decent features. It'd give you more money to spend on getting nicer equipment for the rest of your system.

With around $750 for HU, speakers, and amp, you should be able to put together a nice setup.

Here's what i suggest:

HU: Alpine 9835 (~$300)

Speakers: 2 Sets of Pioneer Rev 6.5" or one set of CDT EF-61FGs (available on woofersetc.com)

Amp: Memphis PR100.4 (Revs) or PR300.2 (CDTs) both available at woofersetc.com

Thanks for all the tips. The only thing I don't like about the 9856 is the 80's era display. I would have to get at least a 9857 to satisfy that little nit pick of mine. That's why the dvd units were so appealing, nice high tech interface. Will one pair of CDT speakers really do the job? Cuz replacing the ******* door speakers is a pain.

Yeah, the premiers are nice units. Probably a better all-around deck than the 9856. I'd still rather have the 9835, but I'm more into the tuning and getting the best SQ possible.

As for the CDTs, they should do the job just fine. In a small environment like a truck, they'll get plenty loud. If you tend to have passengers in the back very often, keep the stock rears for some rear fill. Otherwise just rip all the stock speakers out.

Thanks for the links DejaWiz. You understood what I meant with having a quality display. I've decided to go with the Pioneer Premier 7800. Looks the best to me and I know I can trust its sound quality.

Glad to assist. You'll likely by very pleased with that HU! I'm still running an old DEH-P8400MP and it sounds awesome. The 7800 has a slight edge over it. And cheaper, too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Oh and with a reg cab truck don't buy rears. Take that money and put it torwards your amp or front stage. all you need is a decent 4 channel. any one got suggetions with his budget. The stuff that I like and use and deal with on a normal basis would shoot him out of his budget quick.
