Noob here...WTF?

what model is your sorento and does it have a base model radio or upgraded, this might be why you find several different wire options, list how many wires you have and the colors coming from the factory harness and that will help us determine where to go with hooking them up.

also does the harness you ordered match your factory sound system as far as base model or upgraded.

How short are they? At the nub? A little solder and shrink tube if you have enough room to work with. Send some pics.
So I stripped the nubs. I've got approx 1/4 of an inch of copper exposed on each wire in the existing cut wire harness. (you know, the grey plug that plugs into the radio itself. I believe I have enough to solder to the bundle in the car. Great idea! Now the only issue is the fact there are two yellow wires and I don't know which is which.

My Sorento is a 2005 Kia Sorento LX with the Sports Package. It is the radio that came with it. It is AM/FM/CD/CASS. The sticker on the back (I saw when it was in my hand) has "Delphi Delco" on it. I couldn't determine a stock number on the sticker.

The harness I ordered from Metra, according to Metra, is THE correct OEM harness designated for my year Sorento. It came with a 24 pin plug and a 12 plug pin. The factory harness is just the 24 plug BUT the Metra plugs fit in the back of my radio. But anyways, here is a list of the wire colors of the factory harness"

Black--ground (12V+)

Red--

Yellow (one of two!)---

Blue--

Pale green--

Black (thinner than other black, above)

Red w/orange stripe

BOTTOM ROW

Red w/black stripe (one of two!)

Brown w/black stripe

Green w/red stripe

Yellow w/ green stripe

Yellow w/blue stripe

Yellow w/black stripe

Yellow (a second one!)

Red w/black stripe (the second one)

Blue w/black stripe

Green w/orange stripe--12 Volt ignition/switched (12V-)

Green--12Volt battery/constant (12V+)

Looking closer, the second red w/black stripe MIGHT be red w/blue stripe but I can't be certain. If it's blue, it's dark blue, almost black.

Thank you in advance ~~Mark~~

i am not familiar with the sorento but seems like your yellows could be illumination and amp turn on, try each one and see if you get lights on the radio, unfortunately it is process of elimination, if you are afraid to blow something you could always get an inline fuse holder the kind with 2 prongs or any kind really and put a small fuse in it like 1.5 amp or 2 amp as your testing wires that way the fuse pops instead of your display panel, it sounds like your 2 reds 2 of the yellows ect. usually if you have 2 of the same color with different color stripe, most of the time they are speaker wires, one of the yellows could be coming in to the head unit and the head unit sends it back out on the other yellow to complete a circuit, i found something similar on my wifes jeep, the factory speakers were blown and they had little amps screwed to the speaker, when unplugged and tried to bypass it would not work, so this pissed me off and i put a new system in. hope this helps, i could give you more if you need, but i need to give my fingers a rest... not much of a typer lol.

thank you , jeepguylv. That's some good advice to check into. I read (in one of my many searches) that red/black was radio illumination but that didn't work. I gotta get it fixed before the weekend--going on a road trip with my son.

Thanks again in advance-Mark-

Now name all the colors on the new clip in the exact same order. Then I can tell you what wire goes where as long as they are both the same clip with just different colors. They connect to the same pins in the same places on both clips.

is this 2 different clips?

If by "clips" you mean 'plugs', then yes, it Is 2 different clips.
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you on this yet I've been busy. For starters, What kind of radio is going in a single din or double din? Also I believe the new clip you got is for 2 din units with video and navi. The radio you had in doesn't have that therefore the clip had less wires so there should be blank pins on the old clip. I need to know the order including the blanks.
Heres an example of what I need to know

old clip top row

blank pin

wire to pin

wire to pin

blank pin

Sorry I'm just a little confused because the 2 24 pin clips have different wiring orders.

Just wanted to add.

I've looked this up and the clip they gave you isn't quite the right clip. Its the clip for a 2003. Although it fits and can be used it is not the right clip. In order to use that clip your going to have to ignore all of the labeled wires. The 2003 and 2005 have different pin orders which explains why the wiring order on the 2 clips is different. Meaning the ground and power on the new clip are in different positions on the old clip. Your going to have to ignore pretty much all colors and labels on the new clip and wire it purely based off of pin locations.
