Nice site you guys got here. I really didn't know a thing about car audio until I started looking around this morning. I do know that I like listening to high quality audio and you're going to get what you pay for. So I'm doing the whole shebang for my 98 Pathfinder. I already have a Sony CDX-M630 head unit.

Heres what I plan on getting:

Speakers,

Infinity Reference 6022si 6-1/2"/6-3/4"

and

Infinity Reference 5012i 5-1/4"

Subwoofer,

2 10" Kicker Comp VR (2 for 1 at circuit city)

Amp,

Pioneer 4-Channel Amplifier (GM6300F)

From what I've read those are all good components. Anything not look right there?

Then I got to buy cables, any recommendations? Same thing with the sub-box, are those just aesthetics for differences, or do they improve sound quality some how?

My only other question was on the speakers. The smaller infinities are only $70 so I could just get two of those. Will an extra inch make a difference? (no ****) And if I do get the two different sizes, which should go up front, big or small?

Thanks for the help.

well, it seems like your off to a good start

it looks to me like you need another amp to run your subs though

things to keep in mind:

you will need a box for the subs, IT DOES MATTER!

cables you will need: rca's power and ground, speaker wire. look at knukonceptz for a good wiring kit

the speakers need to be able to fit in your stock locations, go to crutchfield to find that out, unless you plan on getting kick panels.

Pioneer 4-Channel Amplifier (GM6300F) is the amp I was looking at. Why would I need two amps? More power? Could I just get a better amp and only get one?

you need to get atleast 4 ga power wire 0 ga would be better but 4 ga would be easier to work with for your fist time you'll need rca's ground the same size as your power a remote wire from your cd player

Thanks for the help so far guys.

I started looking at other amps and came across http://www.overstock.com (which is an awesome site, so many good deals). They have a bunch of car audio equipment, not so many of the top names but there are some. So here is the link to the amp section, could anyone give me a recommendation for my proposed setup from my first post?

http://www.overstock.com/search?keywords=amplifier&refinepeak+wattage+range=1500w-2000w

That is only for the 1500-2000 peak watt, you can go to the others on the left.

Names like MD, Lanzar, and Metrik. Have you heard any good things about any of those companies?

The only good things about those companies is that they are cheap. That's all. The Lanzar Opti amps are the best out of any of those companies. I would not buy any of those amps. I would check the classifieds here if I were you.

Your choice of equipment is great so far. Other than the Sony headunit, but it's decent for what it is.

You need all 4 channels of that amplifier to power the 4 speakers. One channel per speaker. You still need an amp for the subs. Those are dual 4 ohm subs. So you can wire the coils on each sub in parallel and get 2 ohms for each sub. So you can get a 2 channel amp and run it with a 2 ohm load on each channel, or get a mono amp and run it with a 1 ohm load or a 4 ohm load. You will get more power with a lower ohm load, but amps that can run at lower ohm loads are more expensive.

Don't look at peak wattage, it means very little. Compare RMS ratings. But also keep in mind that companies that produce lower quality components overrate their amps by up to 25%

you need to get atleast 4 ga power wire 0 ga would be better but 4 ga would be easier to work with for your fist time you'll need rca's ground the same size as your power a remote wire from your cd player

4ga is fine you do not need 0ga with what you are doing. To make it super easy you can even buy something like a Stinger, Kicker, JL, RF or Streetwires pre-packed amp kits. They have them in single and multi amp configs. Check ebay you can find them super cheap on there or Darvex.com.

Just by some decent RCA's-Stinger, Streetwires, Hosa, Knu and there are a bunch of other brands that are cheap and good quality.

Speaker wire 18 or 16ga.

For budget amps check out some of these places-Look at the classifieds on forums first you can find killer deals. Other places to look.

Millionbuy.com, Ikesound.com, woofersect.com, sonicelectronix.com or even ebay. Lanzar opti, PPI, profile there alot of decent priced budget amps out there so you won't break the bank.

Thanks guys. So just to be clear, I am going to need two amps no matter what? What RMS range should I be looking at for both the speakers and the subs?

edit: also how reliable is buying equipment off of the classified section on this forum?

speakers look for 100wrms per channel. And yea it would be recommended to get 2 amps one for the speakers and one for the subs. Otherwise you will have to power speakers by HU and they wont sound as good.

So should I be looking at 2 amps, both of which have 2 channels? Or does one have to have 4?

edit: yeah XanderMoser already answered that. I need a 4 channel for the speakers, and a 2 or mono for the subs. Lower ohms is better. What would be the difference between 2 channel and mono?

Ok I'm almost there. Any and all help is appreciated. I searched and read a lot of stuff on this site. I am going to get one or two hifonics amps from this site... http://www.ikesound.com/category-category_id/118

From what I have read I need two. Which is best for my 2 Kicker Comp VR subs 400 RMS 4 Ohm? A mono or a 2 channel guy?

I was looking at the ZXI4006 or the TXI 7506

Which would you recommend for the 4 channel for the speakers. One set is Infinity Reference 50 Watt 2 ohm, and the other is Infinity Reference 45 Watt 2 ohm (i think).

I was looking at the TXI6406 or ZXI 3406.

So any input you guys can give me, I'm still unsure on how much power I need, this stuff is pretty confusing and there is so much of it. Or if you guys have any other amp recommendations in the $100-150 range.

Thanks.
