non mainstreem subs?

hey,

I have not been with the CA webcite more than a few months and im hearing about all these i guess off brand subs. RE audio, memphis, orion...etc. I mean i work at best buy with car audio all day long but i have always rolled with jl's i mean i love them but the price tag is not as attractive as they sound. Right now i have 2 123v3's in a sealed box in an 97 celica powered by and alpine mrp 850 (500rms @ 4ohms, 800 @ 2) . any wayse i am looking for one 12 or ten in an reasonalbe price range (150-275) to put in an sealed or ported box. Loosing the sq i can live with but i would like to have around the same sound but i do want to wire it up at only 4 ohms due to my stock alternator.....would appriciate comments or sujetstions

...Orion an "off-brand"? Hmm... interesting..

^ Had to laugh at that spelling, sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Check out Fi, Ascendant Audio (if they ever re-open), Mach 5 Audio, and TC Sounds for some great sounding subs on a budget. The Fi SSD 10 and TC OEM 10's seem to be very good value subs.

With that amp on a stock alt you shouldn't be tooo bad at 2 ohms. if you put a good battery in the car it should be fine.

I would go with a 12 inch fi SSD

Orion was winning various soundoffs back in the freggin 80s!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

People who have absolutely zero interest in aftermarket mobile A/V gear as a hobby have at least heard of Orion and I'm not talking about the constellation of the same name...

Is your opinion that if Best Buy doesn't sell it that is must be off the radar of the general buying public?

You should get out more.....

Wait a minute! If you're running JL subs - how in the world did you ever hear about those??! Best Buy doesn't carry JLa gear...

But to offer a correction - generally when we see a term such as "off-brand" it immediately brings to mind such stellar gear as Pyramid, Pyle, Boss, etc etc etc. You know - the kinds of equipment you're likely to see in pawn shops and those once-in-awhile sales at your local fairgrounds.

Non-mainstream, as spelled incorrectly in your thread title, is a much more accurate description of what you're meaning excepting the inclusion of Memphis and Orion in the list of what you're talking about.

Orion couldn't be any more mainstream regardless of whether or not you're personally familiar with their products. While true they aren't what they once were before being absorbed by DEI (their current parent company) they still enjoy a monstrous aftermarket enthusiast following.

Memphis is hugely popular as well and makes some highly-regarded gear in their own right.

Non-mainstream subs are only non-mainstream to the mainstream. In the non-mainstream, non-mainstream subs are very mainstream. So I don't really think there's any such thing as non-mainstream subs as they are mainstream outside of the mainstream in the non-mainstream.

Just out of curiosity how many times did you have to say that in your head before it worked out the way you meant it?
