noises coming from sub

when i start my car before any music starts playing there are noises coming from my sub kinda sounds like popping what could be making it do that. I have a 12" alpine R-type and an alpine pdx 1.1000 amp

connection issue

make sure all power and grounds are nice and snug

could also be a signal issue, maybe a ground loop.

I have the same issue on a install we done for a guy about 6 months ago. He came back and upgraded from a Old School Alpine Head unit to a New Alpine Head unit. All we had to do was unplug and plug a new one in And now its doing that. I check grounds and positives and what not to see fi they was loose but they arent. So It could be something else

Many alpine units make the sub "pop" or thump when the deck is put in or turned on.

hmmm thats weird not saying your wrong but the majority of people i know around here have alpine set-ups (ya we are all fanboys) and this is new to me. i am in the process of grinding the spot were my ground was to maybe get a better connection there

huh, well all my friends have alpines, 9887's and when the put the faceplate in it makes the subs thump, only when the car is on or key turned for deck to turn on.

I actually have the same problem. I have a Alpine cda-9807 with a older Rockford Fosgate Punch amp. When I previously had a Power Acoustik amp hooked up to some subs, I don't recall having the problem. I currently have the RF punch amp connected, and when I start my car the sub does the same thing as OP says, a loud thump when it turns on.

I have been told from someone that's it may be the the RF amp b/c it's an older amp, but OP has an Alpine PDX...idk. OP, what kind of HU you got?

i thought it was the amplifier that produces 'turn-on thump'

not sure most of my friends went to college and my one buddy who is still around has pretty much same set up as me but 2 r types and a cda-9884 while his subs are in the trunk i have never heard a pop and neither has he but my car is a lot smaller (saturn sl1) and i have both seats folded down with the sub facing forward and its hard to not notice. also its not jsut one pop it keeps going at random intervals until music is played

after some more dicking around it seems that when i click next to change songs i there is a pop every time i hit a button on the stereo
