Noise Problem

Need help to solve a noise problem. The symptoms are:

- The noise is like a whine that seems to be linked with pressing the accelerator in my car. It starts off kinda low pitch when the car is idle, it gets to be higher pitch the more I give it gas while driving.

- The noise is there even when I don't turn on my head unit.

I recently upgraded my car's 4 channel amp. I didn't have this problem at first, it seems to have started when I replaced the fuse for the amp.

Any ideas what might be causing it?

My system:

4X75 channel Audiobahn amp for fronts and rears (Eclipse)

2X100 channel Kenwood amp for 8" subs (Bazooka) in trunk

Kenwood Excelon head unit

System is just for a small coupe, and sounds good otherwise.

Thanks, ChrisC

that is alternator whine, it's cause by alot of little bad things going wrong.

you can take the RCA's outter barrel that goes to the 4 channel and ground it out with a piece of wire and the noise 9 times out of ten will go away.

if that doesn't work, you can buy a ground loop eliminator, but those things rarely work compared to grounding out the RCA negitive.

you could also check your grounds on your new amp, your old amp and your headunit to make sure everything is grounded to bare metal on the car's chassis system.

grounding your battery negitive terminal to the chassiss in 4 or 0 gauge never hurts either.

if you have really cheap RCA's(like walmart brand) this problem can come from running the RCA's too close to the power cable, but if you have anything 'shielded' that problem wont exist.

i hope some of these solutions help, let me know, there's more things you can do, but those solutions should solve your problem, and i'd suggest doing them in that order : )

Thanks- I'll try grounding the RCAs first...

My head unit has two sets of pre-outs; I send set 1 to the 4 channel amp (where I split it to get 4 channels) and set 2 to the 2 channel amp. Do I need to ground only one of the channels of the 4 on my 4 channel amp, or all 4, or what?

Thanks for the advise //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
