just bumpin my music
all of the sudden, my laptop is not playing music. i went to iTunes, and it wouldn't play, went to virtual dj and it said there was a directx error, went to windows and it wouldnt play...

i checked my drivers and they don't need to be updated.

what can i do to fix this?

how often do you use your headphone port? What kind of computer (manf?) I have a Dell --POS has an on-board Sound card and ther jack terminal is surface mounted. WIth all that being said... due to the nature of said jack, when it got brittle and broke (from extensive use) it shorted and would not allow my pc speakers to play.

Comp USA sells a USB audio adaptor for about $30. I had to install this on my laptop, it is the only way I can listen to sound(s) since my analog outputs is basically fried.

I assume you have opened your advanced controls and made sure the audio output is/was showing your current soundcard. (Sigmatel or other sound device.) Also, did you un-iinstall the sound card drivers, re-boot your p/c, and re-install said drivers?

IMO...just a few things to look at.

oh, and microsoft visual studio keeps popping up saying that it needs to debug something, it does this occasionally, but not like it is now...

could it have anything to do with installing Counter-Strike on my comp?

i installed it earlier this week, and its been acting funny ever since then...

i have a dell laptop. i'm using the output jack for speakers/headphones. the computer will play computer-related noises like 'dings' or startup/shutdown sounds, but nothing that i control.

reformat or take it to a computer shop (not best buy or any large retail stores) because it's not worth trying to diagnose over the internet. There are too many variables involved.

wont hurt... sounds like you definately have a driver issue.. have you tried uninstalling the drivers? I have to agree..there are too many variables, try going back to before you installed the game, see if that resolves the conflict. Will it play mp3's? (like through winamp?) or is it all sounds beyond the pc board speaker beeps.
