I will be getting my Sub soon, but i havent yet read anything about how to cancel the bass from the rest of my speakers.

i have decent speakers, but they cant handle loud bass very well. they have decent mid mass, like quick bass drum hits, but when it comes to held out bass notes they distort. obviously, this is whay im am getting the sub, but i need to know how to cancel out the lower frequencies from the coaxials.

i believe i use a high pass crosover, but i havent been able to find much information on this, and i dont even know where to begin.

i dont want a big crossover box, that is why i didnt get components. there is something small, correct? liie a resistor or something?

i will be installing this all myself, so can anyone explain this to me?

What cd player are you using? there might possibly be a setting in there to filter that.

If not, they sell 'bass blockers', which is just a small capacitor connected across the terminals.

look into a high pass first order filters.

i highly doubt my HU has any adjustments like that. its a JVC KD-S5050. im working on eventually getting a new one, but thats the last thing on a long list. The only 'bass blockers' i have seen are at 500HZ. dont i want something at like 100hz?

a high pass filter is what you need, or bass blockers like the other dude recomended. run them around 80hz or so (play with it, there is no right or wrong) and play your sub 80hz and down. When talking about crossovers, know that slope is the rate of attenuation (in db's)the steeper the slope, the faster the crossover cuts off the offending frequencies.

thanks, the recording was a bit crappy, but theres a first time for everything. (my personal fav is the new song on there)

anyway, i went to my local shop and the only high pass they had were Stinger, and the lowest they came in was 150hz. i am tempted to get them anyway, hoping that later i can afford a midbass, but if i dont, how noticible will the gap be between my Coaxials and my sub (approx 80-100hz)? i figure it would be noticible if i was doing test tones, but wouldnt be too noticible in music. what do you think?
