Spoke to a rep about returning my Altima (its leased until Jan 19th) earlier this week. He tells me that I didnt need to get the vehicle inspected if I didnt have any major damage to the vehicle (which I dont).

I meet up the guy today. As soon as I sit down with him he starts asking if I was interested in purchasing or leasing a Nissan. I said I was thinking about it but wasnt sure. He kept on being persistant about the sale and I finally got a bit upset and asked him if we could just take care of the Altima return first before I purchase anything new.

The salesperson tells me that he cant take any returns today and that I needed to speak to the lease manager (which he said was not there). He said that the only way he would take in the Altima was if I purchased or leased a new car. I told him that I wasnt sure wht I wanted and that I needed time to decide. He still wouldnt stop pushing cars on me.

This is the part that got me pissed:

He asks me if I had the vehicle inspected yet. I told him that i did not because he told me that I didnt have to if I didnt have any damages. He then says......oh, I meant you wouldnt need to get it inspected if you were to purchase or lease a new car with us.

..................................

He never said that on the phone. Now I need to inspect the car by Monday but these guys take a week to come after the appointment is scheduled. Inspection company that Nissan suggested are closed for the weekend.

My friend and I begin to get visibly frustrated and guess who shows up...the lease manager (which he said was not there). He tells me the same thing and I walk out. Salesperson texts me more deals while Im driving home (he wouldnt stop pressuring me).

My question are:

1- What will happen if I go over the lease day?

2- Can I get it inspected by a body shop and go straight to the dealership with the adjuster (or report)?

I fucking hate car salesmen, I would call corporate and give them a whiff of this shit.

This is why I enjoy the fact that car salesmen are becoming a thing of the past with the evolution of the internet. I have only met 2 that were only have douchebags of the 20+ I have had to deal with.

IMHO leasing is for when the vehicle is involved in some sort of business with a tax deduction involved (either on a fleet or when you roll around with a sign taped to it for personal business advertising purposes). Otherwise, you are paying rent on a vehicle and driving it on someone else's terms, which are listed very specifically on a lease agreement. You DID read your lease agreement with a fine tooth comb right? Even when I bought I read the purchase agreement word for word and asked some questions that I knew would make me sound retarded ( but didn't care) just so I would completely understand everything.

Find it and read it and you should see the answer. You will know whether you need to be humble and do what they say or whether you can tell them to go f$#ck themselves, leave the vehicle out front, drop the keys at the cashier's desk, and walk away. But I'll tell you, my understanding is turning in a vehicle at the end of most of these leases I've heard of involves some sort of inspection to verify you don't have damage you were supposed to have taken care of while the vehicle was in your posession. Think of it this way: If you are t-boned in your lease vehicle and it causes severe body damage can you just leave it and turn it in as is without a worry when the lease is up??

Could be this is a very valid and legal requirement of your lease that they're willing to overlook if you immediately buy something, could be it's total bull sh!t and your chain is being jerked.

lease manager told me that they might give me a 1 week grace period...but Ive also heard that they might charge me for another month

I hear some people taking to a body shop and having it inspected by them...that would be my best option (if Nissan lets me do it)

I've dealt with a few. Rarely had a problem. In my experience where you meet the douche bags is when you don't have enough money to bring to the table and/or a crappy trade, get tunnel vision for a vehicle to the extent that you're willing to put your manhood on the negotiating table, or you care too much to simply ignore them and leave. The two dealerships out of 6 or 7 I've been to in serious purchasing situations, they were so blatantly crooked that I simply left when I knew things weren't going the way I wanted. I've really never stayed in that bad of a situation for long enough to develop bad feelings towards the salesman. Aside from a couple bad apples I've seen, the rest of them were actually professional, laid back, and pleasant to talk business with even when I decided not to give the my business.

If there's any place where I've ever had real difficulty it's been service departments. The ones that can properly diagnose complex issues and square you away the first time around are few and far between.

got this from consumeraffairs:

Robert of Danbury CT (9/11/02): Nissan asked me to schedule an inspector to come to my home to inspect my Pathfinder at lease end. Inspector came, and noted over $700. worth of damage to vehicle. I had vehicle fixed for significantly less, had vehicle reinspected, damage now $387.00. This occurred AFTER lease agreement ended. Inspecting service, ITS, failed to show up on numerous occasions delaying the process. After second inspection I wanted to hire independent inspector as is my right under Connecticut Law. Nissan said instead of hiring independent inspector they would waive all damage charges. I agreed. By this time it was three months past lease end

After returning vehicle and getting receipt from dealer stating that vehicle was in perfect condition Nissan sends me a bill for $2400 that included, the three months of lease payments that occurred because they failed to come to inspect vehicle in timely manner, $125 repossession fee, even though I brought vehicle back to dealer. $350 term fee, $201 late fee. tax on term fee, and property tax. This has now gone on my credit report and has kept me from purchasing any other vehicle.

ouch...
