Nightshade v.2 Production Motor

So what kind of power handling daily are we talkin about here? 3k? 4k? 5k?

We are trying to find other subs to test out for 4k+ daily. Without having to go to 4" coils. Only two subs have been able to do it properly with 3" coils in our testing and it would be nice to expand the selection.

Not a bad looking sub either.

Have you tried a Warden ? DD 95z 99z ??

there are a few subs out there that can take a "4k amp" daily. havent seen 1 that can take 4k clamped daily. alot of it also depends on the enclosure and the person on the vol knob...

One of the best qualities about the NightShade is it's ability to get loud off very little power. Even though the v.2 is rated for 2kw it'll get plenty loud off only 1-1.5kw. We were able to get a 150.3db legal in my truck with a pair of stock NS v.2 15"s off only 1800w of clamped power. Not bad considering these subs are built to handle 10kw burps with ease.
sold! lol

i think it was your alignment.. with that much moving mass its just not going to be efficient.. good motor strength and low power compression will make those suckers WHALE...
I do have a lot of time & experience into my setup as far as spl goes but in a direct swap the stock configured NS v.2s were right on par in low power efficiency with my NS v.1s. My NS v.1s were specifically built for a low power setup with about half the moving mass as the NS v.2s and a 33% softer suspension.

I wouldn't hesitate to run a saz-4500d on one of these daily. The cooling design of the motor works extremely well.
Brandon has a 4500D @ 1 ohm per NS v.2 in his truck - so far the performance is very good. He gets his 12x SPV-70s down into the 11s with a 350-amp alt before the subs are getting too hot.

SAZ-4500 @ 0.5 ohm is deadly.....

Jacob, our guy from RoadQuake at the Parts Express show this weekend ran dual saz-4500's strapped into a 1ohm load (yes below rated spec). Our two spl-5150 is a 1+1 Cu 4" coil..... Our coil's dcr is 1 ohm (each coil) so its not quite as bad as nominal 1 ohm. They did not survive for daily use. The system was over 15k metered from what i was told using 9 batteries. Burps was ok, daily...not ok. That amp is a beast and no woofer I know will take that punishment for very long. Hes running 5400's at twice the dcr now.

jacob what you get out the 4500 @ 14.4 with a true 1ohm load? id imagine close to above 5200?

whats the dampening factor @ 1ohm and whats the slew rate @ 1ohm.. i very rearly see this spec now n days..

lthought the inductance is low for such a huge coil with that much current dampening factor IS a factor..

It passed our brutal 5 minute 60 Hz thermal test at ~2000-watts clamped power (it floats around this number... as we have to adjust the rig as coil heats to try and keep power as close to 2kw as possible).

We even put the coils on a DMM at the end of the video.

So... without a doubt the NS v.2 will take MUCH more than it's rated power on music thermally having passed this 60 hz torture test where limited coil movement severely limits coil cooling.

The sound in the video is REALLY annoying as it was distorting the camera mic pretty badly being so close - I'd suggest turning the sound down and just looking at the meters if you decide to watch the whole thing.
