I decided to sell my alpine 7949 so I could make a little cash and also pick up a newer HU that has bluetooth, USB, DVD and all that shiz.

I didn't realize that the sound quality and pre-out voltage loss was gonna crap out as hard as it did.

The newer pioneer 3200 has a lot of nice features but after setting it up, I had to crank my amps up to get the same gain where as with the alpine I didnt even have to turn the gains up one notch to get optimal output.

I also could turn the HU up to max and know that I wasn't distorting what so ever.

wow! 15 year old HU puts the pioneer to absolute shame.

Lesson learned.

anyway to add something to effectively boost the pre-out signal?

yeah, did the fact that your alpine cost 700 15 years ago, and your pioneer cost 300 today not ring a bell?
yes... the bell rang before I pulled the trigger, but I didn't think the loss in SQ and power would be as significant.

I though the extras would be worth the loss and yes, I love that I can watch movies, play any files and connect any input but now I need to find a double din that has both:)

300??? I seen one on eBay for like 70 bucks... New Pioneers are trash for the most part, not to mention the 3200 is at the bottom part of the barrel... Lastly, the 3200 only has 2.2 volt preouts.

Sleaze you should know better than that!

You could have gotten a good Pioneer double din for like 300, and it would have 4 volt pre-outs and much more settings.

Yeah I had a pioneer deh-5100ub that had 4v preouts and I sold it to my brother and then replaced it with a kenwood kdc-x895 which also has 4v preouts and I had to turn my gains way down the kenwood clearly had higher output.
