I'm using:

Deh80-prs

Kicker KX650.4

Hertz Es250 10" woofer

CDT ES-62i

Nexus 7 2013 connected USB Sabre U2 DAC then onto AUX on the DEH80PRS

Viper4Android

The Ipod sounds AMAZING with lossless files, crystal clear with proper tight bass but from the N7 it sounds dull, no bass & there's a slight hiss.

I've tried playing with Viper4android turned off but then the volume is WAY too low. If I use Viper4android I can boost the output gain & use other settings for more volume. Doing that I can hear the music but it needs to be near max volume to compare to the ipod at half that volume.

What do you guys think?

i believe with Android based devices using a USB DAC is mono so u don't get good separation, i had tested my device using a USB DAC and i had a wider range just using AUX instead of USB DAC, that may be why it does not sound very good, i had to go back to use AUX //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i am using an HTC One M8, its a phone that has a louder Headset volume output, it was louder than the USB DAC, i also use Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos, it sounds really good and this is going through AUX

i compared to my One Plus One, Note 3, Note 4 and Galaxy s5 and the One M8 has louder output

anything you bring an aux connection in, it'll sound bad. USB flash drive or bluetooth is actually better. That DAC is nothing compared to the 80 prs's internal DAC. To use that internal DAC better you need a direct digital connection without any pre-processing.

Save that thing for laptops and headphones. Leave it out of the car audio world, it doesnt belong when you have something infinitely better. Its just dragging the setup down.

u really think BT sounds better than AUX?
newer head units have much better bluetooth transcoding than the old ones. Its a pure digital connection, not as strong as USB but still infinitely better than aux which is just analog. Aux is the absolute worst out of the bunch since its using mostly your phone's dac or your external dac to do the music processing rather than letting the head unit process it like it should be. Of course if you are using pandora, its gonna sound like sh*t no matter what.

LOL

I forgot I had media volume control (GPS based) still on.

I turned that off & turned off all audio boosting / gain in viper4android & it's perfect now.

I'll compare the same songs using my ipod vs through the nexus 7 DAC. What would I gain by going digital through the ipod?

All my files are lossless
