I just bought Infinity speakers all around for my car and I need help setting them up. I bought Kappa 32.5cf's for the dash, Kappa 63.5i's for the doors and Kappa 572.5 cf's for the rear. Now they all come with external crossovers. Not too sure on what the crossovers are for, but do I need to use them? I plan on running an amp to power the 6.5s and the 5x7s. What amp would be good for this? I was just going to run the 3.5s with the head unit but I was told if I do that I should use bass blockers. What is all of your guys' opinions? Thanks in advance!!!

Yes you need the crossovers, they keep your speakers from trying to play frequencys below what they can. Basically so they dont play subwoofer frequencys. You basically just connect the crossovers in line with the speaker wire. the 3.5s will be fine off the hu, and the bass blockers are sold at Circuit City and Best Buy for about 10 bucks for a pair. You just connect them inline with your + speaker wire. As for an amp, anything from 35-50 watts should power those speakers nicely. If you are looking for a cheap amp, I would go profile CL440, and for a high end amp I would check out the Alpine V-12 in my Signature.

Will I need to use bass blockers since I will be using the external crossovers. If I am understanding correctly, wouldn't the crossovers kind of be bass blockers? So the speaker wire gets connected to the crossovers and then the crossovers are wired to the speakers? Will it be ok to run all the speakers with the head unit until I can get an amp? Would speaker baffles be a good investment?

No the external crossovers will handle all the signal processing you need, the speakers that will be poweredd by the HU and do not come with the crossovers will need the bass blockers, bass blockers are a passive crossover.

Might hurt the HU amp if you run six speakers though. Is that Hu ment to run that many speakers? If you lower the ohm load on the amp, you may blow it.

Best Buy has the brackets you need. Circuit City might too.

let me ask the question that everyone is pondering......

if the 5x7 and the 6x8 are the same size... why are there mount brackets for them to adapt each other??? Hmmmmm?

da mn I hate when that happens.

because pioneer started marketing "6x8" speakers and customers were told by best buy that they had 6x8's and they wanted "bigger" speakers, really they are the same size but it has a slightly larger surround, but there is never ever any holes or anything, as a matter of fact EVERY 5x7 fits perfectly without a hole missing (better than 6 1/2s and such).

Not sure if this answers your ? but my car has the upgraded premium package for 6 speakers from factory. I have a Sony CDX-CA810X HU that will be upgraded when i get an amp.
