hello! new to the boards.

im a car enthusiast and i love music so i want to learn about how car audio systems work. i want to learn the terms, slang, jargon, etc. of the market and find the perfect setup for my car. i drive an 05 mitsu evo 8 and lovin every second of it.

first question:

how is the pioneer premier ts-w2000spl subwoofer (compared to others)? i found a GREAT deal on it and a ported box so thats why im askin

second question:

what amp should i go with it? its 2000 watts peak with 1000 watts rms (still not sure what each of those things mean) but im lookin to spend >200 bucks on an amp that will juice it plenty. thanks!

The peak/Max on a sub really is for advertising purposes. 1000rms means how much power it can take.
so would it be ideal if the amp and sub rms matches? or whats better. for the amp to be able support more watts rms? enlighten me

Its always better if u get an amp that puts out more power. Say If ur getting the subwoofer with 1,000rms. And u can choose between an amp that puts out 1,200rms or 800rms. Its better to take the 1,200rms. Cuse u can just turn ur gains down to give the subwoofer 1,000rms. As where if u get the 800rms amp if u try to get 1,000 rms out of it then it would probably start sending clipped signals and either the amp or the sub will give way (or both.)

I dont know the impedance of the sub u can get a good deal on, but a good budget amp is the Hifonics Bxi12006D

How big is your trunk ?

Does the weight of the equipment/box matter ?

Are you looking for sound quality or sound quantity ?

well ok heres the deal. im not gettin the pioneer sub ne more, but the audio shop near my house recommended 2 jl 10" w3v3 subs in a sealed box. he said that was the best setup for my car.

also one more question: are there any websites/threads out there that i can read so that i have a better understanding of the terminology the veterans here use? thanks in advance!

w3's are great sub's but imo if you found a good deal on the pioneer id snatch it up. then buy your self a powerbass asa 1000.2 for 225 shipped. it is underated and will be great for that sub. output in a proper ported enclosure will be great and it will sound just as good. great sq woofer that has potential to get loud

I believe that any shop that recommends "this is the best setup for your car" is just trying to get a sale. There are far better ways you can go besides JL and its not the only thing thats going to sound the best. If you want to learn up on some terminology I highly suggest going to http://www.bcae1.com.
