newb needs some help

Currently in my 96 tacoma i have a alpine cda 9813 h/u running alpine sps-600c 6.5 2-way components, a pioneer 260 rms running my pioneer premier 12". i got a 300/4 for cheap with some jl XR650-CXi. the jl xr650-cxi came with a 3-way crossover instead of the right 2-way crossover. so i was going to run my h/u in 3-way mode powering the jls with the jl amp with the front channel going to the tweeters and rear going to mid bass and pioneer to pioneer. possibly running the alpine tweeters off the h/u depending how it sounds. bassically am i going to mess up those speakers by not using there passive crossovers and using the alpine active crossover? or should i buy new passive crossover(if so which ones) and run the jls and pioneer off the 300/4

Wow what a mess you got there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

As long as the are crossed at the correct frequency, it does not matter if it is your HU, a dedicated xover, passive xover, or your amps built in xover, they all work the same. The only exception is that certain xovers are adjustable and some are not. If you want to control the xover points, you are better off with the HU. If you use the wrong xover point on the HU, you could damage the speakers though.

no offence but it sounds like your a little too new to be trying an active setup. just a warning, you may be biting off more than you can chew.

I agree. These are very hard to setup correctly if you have no idea what you are doing. I don't say that to make fun of you in any way. I am just trying to point you in the right direction. Passive xovers usually work really well for the most part. Only a very well trained ear could improve the sound quality beyond that with a bunch of tweaking.

Bottom line it is much easier to get an active setup wrong that it is to get it right.

no i understand totally.. i wouldn't do it if i had the correct crossovers in the first place. where could i get some passive's for a good price and brand? Im not a complete newb to mobile audio, im sure i could figure it out, but yes this would be the first time setting an active crossover. thanks, no offense taking at all just looking for some constructive criticism.
